Rubber Injection Molding Process

Rubber molding is a molding process that produces a useable rubber product. Rubber products are made from uncured rubber or elastomers. An elastomer is any material with sufficient resilience or memory for returning to its original shape in response to pressure or distortions. Rubber and elastomers can be derived from natural sources, although they are mostly synthetic, produced through highly controlled chemical processes. Rubber is an excellent material for situations that require a material to expand and return to its original shape.

Rubber molding creates molded rubber parts by pressing a block of rubber into a rubber molding metal cavity. The rubber is then exposed to heat, activating a chemical reaction. While there are variations in specific methods, all rubber manufacturers use heat and pressure method to form molded rubber products. The three most common methods in the rubber molding process are rubber injection molding, compression molding, and transfer molding.

Standard Tolerances

Tolerances – MiMfactories primarily uses and quotes RMA3 tolerance on rubber molded products which is the standard drawing designation “A3” commercial. For technical assistance please contact our sales or customer service team.

Mixing Equipment

Mixing Equipment- The mixing of rubber involves many variables, some of them are material and others are of a mechanical nature. Mill or Banbury mixing equipment is used mainly by MiMfactories.

Testing Equipment

Testing Equipment – MiMfactories and its suppliers uses lab equipment for testing durometer, tensile, elongation, ozone, compression set, brittleness,  adhesion, Fluid testing

Comparator

Comparator – Is a 2-D measurement machine used for monitoring the processes and quality of a broad range of manufactured parts. A comparator projects magnified images of parts onto a glass screen using illumination sources, lenses and mirrors for the primary purpose of making 2-D measurements
